Mr David Whitbread

Mr David Whitbread - Chair

David Whitbread is a Chartered Accountant, and a former Partner and Board member of Deloitte Australia.

He holds a B Ec. from Adelaide University, is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and was the first SA State Chairman of the AICD on its inception.

David is a Director/Chairman/Meeting Chairman/Board Member of a number of family businesses, including Menz Corporation and Western Murray Irrigation Limited (Dareton NSW).

Mr James (Jim) Sweeney - Deputy Chair

Jim (a former Colorectal Surgeon) has had a long time interest in Surgical Education, Assessment and Clinical Practice Improvement. Jim is a former Senior Examiner for the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, former Head of Colorectal Surgical Unit, Flinders Medical Centre and current Member of the Finance Committee and Chair of Patient Safety and Quality Committee.

Ms Sonya Furey

Sonya Furey is an experienced non-executive director with executive level experience in finance and legal risk management, governance, stakeholder engagement and strategy.

Sonya has diverse industry experience having worked at senior levels in utilities, agribusiness, mining and professional services.

Sonya holds a BEc (Acc) from the Flinders University and LLB (Hons) and LLM (Corporate and Commercial) from the University of Adelaide.

Sonya is a non-executive director and committee chair of Tarac Australia Ltd and a member of Australian Institute of Company Directors SA/NT State Council. Sonya is a graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

 

 



richardmiller

Rev Richard Miller

Rev Richard Miller is a retired Uniting Church Minister who represents the Moderator of the Uniting Church on St Andrew's Hospital Board. He has had experience as a minister in both South Australia and the Northern Territory with a focus on both local congregations and community service. He also served as the General Manager of the S.A. UnitingCare Commission with responsibility for Chaplins and the Church's community service work through its mission agencies, schools and hospital. From 2006-2009 he was Chairperson of UnitingCare Australia with National responsibilities.

Rev Miller, is the Chairperson of St Andrew's Hospital Human Research and Ethics committee.

In retirement, he lives on a small farm near Strathalbyn, is involved with a number of Uniting Church congregations on a sessional basis, participates in several community history and environment restoration groups and enjoys working on his collection of vintage and veteran trucks in his spare time.

Daniel Cehic

Daniel Cehic is a Cardiologist. He completed his medical training at the University of Adelaide, Royal Adelaide Hospital and John Radcliffe Hospital (Oxford).

He has special expertise in CardioOncology and Electrophysiology. His practice is at GenesisCare where he is also the Chief Medical Officer for Cardiology for Australia.

Daniel has expertise in health management and regulation having completed a Master of Business Administration at the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts and being a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He holds several board and advisory appointments relating to healthcare in the private and public sector.

Mr Trevor Lambert

Trevor has over 40 years of experience in delivering engineering infrastructure projects, having been a consultant, a contractor and a business owner. Perhaps his most significant roles were during his time as part of the team that was responsible for the development of the Alice Springs to Darwin Railway and at Techport Australia at Osborne.

Susy Daw

Susy is a risk management consultant and business mentor with her own business, MQM Business Consultants. She has twenty-five years experience in risk and strategic consulting for the public and private sector.

Susy engages with Boards to link risk and strategy and will work on high level discussions on risk appetite or is equally at home with all levels of staff raising risk awareness and working on operational risk and strategy analysis.

Susy’s working career started as a Paediatric Registered Nurse with senior management roles in the private sector. Her risk focus broadened from health into a wide-ranging scope across industries and sectors. Other governance expertise includes seventeen years as a facilitator for the Australian Institute Company Directors in the Foundations of Directorship, Company Directors Course, Applied Risk Governance and Governance to Protect Vulnerable People.

Eileen Sawyer – Chief Executive Officer

Eileen joined the St Andrew’s Hospital team as Chief Executive Officer in January 2025.

She has returned to her home city of Adelaide to take up this opportunity after more than a decade in London in senior leadership positions across a diverse range of industries and specialisations including aged care, property, infrastructure, financial services, hospitality and entertainment.

Her experience includes leading large and complex teams, financial management, compliance, risk management and investment activities including acquisitions and sales. She is passionate about delivering excellence in a culture that fosters mutual respect where people have the opportunity to prosper.

Eileen is a member of CPA Australia and holds Bachelor degrees in Commerce (Accounting) and Arts. She is also an experienced non-executive board member and trustee.

Eileen looks forward to working together with the Senior Executive team at St Andrew’s Hospital to continue the legacy of being the leading private hospital in South Australia providing medical and surgical excellence, within a supportive culture, where relationships matter, teamwork counts, and care exceeds expectations.

 



davidwalters

David Walters

David Walters graduated from the University of Adelaide and is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. Mr Walters is a Consultant General Surgeon at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Senior Lecturer with the University of Adelaide. He works privately at St Andrews and his South Terrace rooms. Mr Walters has a subspecialty interest in Breast, Endocrine and Laparoscopic surgery and has longstanding professional affiliations with specialist societies and public hospitals. These roles have included contributing to undergraduate teaching, research, post-graduate training, national steering committees and specialist executives. Mr Walters is the Chair of the Breast Surgeons of Australia and New Zealand-  Breast Quality Audit, which is Australasia’s largest database of surgical outcomes in the surgical management of breast cancer. Mr Walters is a founding member of the Steering Committee for the Australia New Zealand  Thyroid Cancer Registry, Past Chair of  State Committee of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Natalie Kelly

Natalie is an experienced senior executive with over 20 years of experience across management, strategy and operations roles in the healthcare, banking and financials and Government sectors.

Natalie was Director of Healthcare Management and Health Partnerships at Bupa Health Insurance as well as Divisional General Manager of Provider Commercials and Operations at Medibank Private.

Prior to that, Natalie was a Senior Equities Analyst providing investment advice on ASX listed healthcare companies at CommSec and also worked in the Mergers and Asset Sales branch of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.

Natalie holds a Master of Commerce (Economics) from the University of Melbourne and a Bachelor of Commerce (Economics Honours) from Monash University. She is a graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and completed the Advanced Management and Leadership Programme at the University of Oxford.
